 5 Day gorilla and Chimps safari to Bwindi and kibale national park

Our safari starts and ends in Entebbe/Kampala Uganda. This 5 Days Gorillas and Chimp Safari  calls for a gorilla permit of $600 per person and $150 chimpanzee tracking permit per person in the cost to be provided. The 5 days Gorillas and Chimp Safari takes you to 2 different National parks in Uganda; that is the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for Gorilla tracking and Kibale Forest NPK for Chimpanzee Experience.

About Kibale NPK

Kibale National Park is located in western Uganda on the footsteps of Mt. Rwenzori and it’s one of the greatest rain forest in Africa. It has an altitude of 3,300 meters above the sea level. Kibale national park is famous for its 13 species of primates. 

Kibale Chimpanzee Tracking

Looking at Chimpanzee behavior, each community of chimpanzees can have over 100 individuals and each group has got a complicated social structure. Each group has got an adult male (Alpha Male) and he takes the responsibility to defend the group against any intruders (Males) from outside communities. The chimpanzees can be located by listening to their pant hooting calls and then the area can be located where they are calling from. You are Usually given an hour to spend with these primates, observe how they feed, play, care for the young ones and take as many pictures as you can.

ABOUT BWINDI FOREST NPK

 

Bwindi impenetrable National Park was opened to tourists in 1993 and it covers an area of 331 sq. meters of lowland forests and montane forests. The park has four habituated groups which include; Mubare-1993, Habinyanja-1998, Rusengura-2002 and Nkuringo gorilla group-2004. In addition, the safari park has 12 gorilla families which are open to the tourists on daily basis; Bitukura-2008, Busingye-2011, Bwezza-2011, Kahungye-2011, Mishaya-2010, Nsongi-2009, Oruzogo-2011. The park is home to many animal and plant species including; 348 bird species, 120 mammal species, 220 butterfly species, 27 species of chameleons, frogs, and the geckos, 1000 flowering plants, 104 fern species, 163 species of trees, bird species include; the turacos and the horn bills.

 

Detailed Itinerary

 

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After your morning breakfast transfer to Kibale National park. You will have your lunch in fort portal and enjoy the foot hills of the Rwenzori mountains. Depending on arrival at your lodge, you might have a chance to visit some of the scenic crater lakes region and also have a chance to check out the terraced tea estates. Overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi wetland swamp

After breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters where you will be briefed about the Dos and Don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. By 9:00am, you will be starting your search for the chimpanzees within the Kibale forest NPK. Chimpanzees are the closest relatives to the human being and they share 98% of their DNA with that of the human beings. There are other primate species in this Kibale forest that can be sighted along the chimps including; the L’Hoest monkeys, Black and white colobus monkeys, grey checked Mangabey, red tailed monkeys, the bush babies, and many bird species which also include; green breasted pitta, rumped tinker bird, yellow spotted nicator, and this park is one of the great rain forest in Africa and it has the largest community of chimpanzees where by each community has 1 -100 individuals and each community has a complicated social structure.
In the afternoon, you will visit Bigodi swamp which is also good for bird watching and primates. The swamp is maintained by the local people and they earn a living from this activity, enjoy many bird species including; the great blue turuco, etc, on the side of primate baboons, Black and white colobus etc.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park

Today you will transfer to Bwindi driving through the ishasha sector famous for its tree climbing, besides lions you have a chance to see other animals including; Elephants, birds,antelopes etc. After Ishasha you proceed to Bwindi which is 2 and half hours drive all this depending on the Tracking location.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

After your breakfast, you will proceed to the park headquarters to have a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Bwindi.  The Gorilla tracking can sometimes be tough and it needs someone so strong and fit. You are advised to carry rain coats and boots because the weather unpredictable. There are also some potters who always help with the carrying of the luggage on behalf of the visitors at cost of $15. After your trek, return to the lodge for your lunch and in the afternoon, you may opt to visit the Batwa community to enjoy some cultural performances before getting back to your lodge.

Day 5: Departure back to Kampala

Drive at leisure heading to Kampals/Entebbe, have lunch in Mbarara town and have another stopover at the equator to have some photos and water experiments then proceed to Kampala/Entebbe arriving in the evening.
